Sightline Media Group, the company that publishes Defense News, Federal Times and C4ISR & Networks, has been acquired from former parent company TEGNA.

Sightline, which also publishes the Military Times and its related group of military periodicals and websites, is now owned by the Regent Companies, a private investment firm based in California.

"I view this as a public trust and a huge responsibility," said Sightline President Peter Lundquist. "We're completely committed to these brands, and growing them to success over the long term."

"We believe in print media in business brands that serve a VIP audience," said David Smith, who was made vice president and general manager of Sightline's business-to-business brands: Defense News, Federal Times and C4ISR & Networks. "I also believe there's a dynamic multimedia future ahead for the business brands, with digital, video, broadcast and events playing a key role."

Jill Aitoro is now executive editor over all three brands, in charge of overall content strategy, digital development and operational process across all three brands. She will continue to manage day-to-day operations at Federal Times.

A selective search is underway for an editor for the global Defense News brand.

"It made business sense to bring these business-to-business brands together for synergy, strategy and efficiency rather than have them operate in silos; to me that is sort of self-evident," Smith said. "It lets us focus on strategy. It lets us become more nimble and responsive to the market. It lets us empower our great people from the ground up. It also frees all these brands to take the initiative, to take advantage of scale, and to do successful and innovative things together."
