Airbus DS Communications and broadband provider Kodiak are developing an open standard interface that will link land mobile radios with push-to-talk systems.
The standard will enable land mobile radio users to communicate directly with push-to-talk users over 4G/LTE, 3G and Wi-Fi networks, according to an Airbus news release. Airbus is coupling its VESTA radio system with Kodiak broadband communications.
"Linking mission critical LMR [land mobile radio] networks with non-mission critical carrier devices effectively extends the range of the LMR network to anywhere with a cellular signal," said Airbus DS Communications CEO Bob Freinberg.
