SeaRobotics has been selected by Lockheed Martin to build its commercial Marlin Mk3 autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV).

Designed for deepwater commercial applications such as pipeline inspection, the Marlin has a range of more than 100 kilometers, and up to 24 hours endurance, according to a Lockheed Martin news release. It can operate as deep as 4,000 meters.

"The Marlin can be outfitted with sophisticated sensor packages including multi-beam, side scan, 3-D, sub-bottom profiler, and synthetic aperture sonars, as well as high resolution video, still photo, and laser profilers, enabling advanced autonomous data acquisition, processing, analysis and response," Lockheed said.
