DISA selects CenturyLink for network services

A communications officer with the 7th Iraqi army division adds computers to a network during an advanced computer networking class at Camp Mejid, Al Asad, Iraq, Nov. 23, 2008. The training will help build the communication infrastructure within the division.

CenturyLink has been selected by DISA as an authorized network services provider for the agency’s Global Network Services (GNS) contract.

As an authorized services provider for the $4 billion GSN contract, CenturyLink can bid on task orders for wired and wireless communications.

“CenturyLink is authorized to bid on and provide a suite of global network transport services that include content delivery networks, virtual private networks, fiber-optic broadband, Wi-Fi, satellite, wavelength, network security, colocation, cloud connectivity and software-defined networking services,” said a company news release.

GSN aims to create a single Department of Defense communications network, with a 100-gigabit-per-second backbone, by 2020.
