Airbus Defence and Space has won a €145 million (US $162.1 million) German military contract for satellite communications.

The contract, awarded by the BAAINBw German military procurement agency, calls for Airbus to operate the COMSATBw secure satellite communications system, according to an Airbus news release. The contract, good until 2022, is a renewal of the contract that Airbus won in 2006. It includes operating the COMSATBw-1 and COMSATBw-2 satellites as well as their teleports and networks.

COMSATBw-1 and COMSATBw-2 provide the Bundeswehr with UHF and X-band coverage, plus additional capacity in C- and Ku-band, from the Americas to eastern Asia.
