Thales has been awarded an Army contract for its vehicle-mounted radio system.

The AN/VRC-121 Vehicle Integrated Power Enhanced Rifleman (VIPER) will equip the Brigade Modernization Command for Network Integration Evaluation (NIE) 16.2, according to a Thales announcement. The company did not disclose the value of the contract.

The AN/VRC-121 is a single-channel radio that runs the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW). It can be installed into the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System Combat Net Radio (SINCGARS CNR) vehicle mount or used in a stand-alone configuration.

"The system provides an independent or second channel solution for vehicle communications acting as a conduit for voice and data between the dismounted soldier, mounted platforms, the unit, and higher commands," Thales said.
