L-3 Communications Cincinnati Electronics Corp. has been awarded a $9 million Navy contract for panoramic sensors for future shipboard defense system.
The completion contract is for the Shipboard Panoramic Electro-optic Infrared (EO/IR) Cueing and Surveillance System (SPECSS) function of the Combined EO/IR Surveillance and Response System (CESARS) program, according to the Department of Defense contract announcement. L-3 will design and build mid-wave infrared (MWIR) and visible spectrum panoramic imagers.
The CESARS program is designed to provide defense from optically guided anti-ship missiles. The SPECCS portion provides wide field-of-view target detection and tracking of anti-ship missiles, fast attack craft, fast attack inshore vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The work is scheduled for completion by November 2018.
