Mine vehicle sensor program passes milestone

The Army’s mine vehicle sensor program has passed an engineering hurdle.

The Vehicle Optics Sensor System (VOSS) has reached Milestone C, which moves the project closer to becoming a program of record.

“Milestone C certifies VOSS as the standard sensor package on mine resistant ambush-protected vehicles, and enables VOSS to become a program of record in fiscal year 2015,” said a Lockheed Martin news release.

VOSS provides on-the-move, 360-degree surveillance and explosive hazard detection capability for route clearance and reconnaissance missions. It includes high resolution color, night vision and thermal sensors in a stabilized 15-inch turret. More than 1,100 VOSS systems have been deployed with the Army, Marine Corps and NATO forces in Afghanistan since 2006.
