Saab has been awarded a Swedish contract for a new signals intelligence, or SIGINT, ship.
Under the 730 million krona (US$80.8 million) Swedish Defense Material Administration contract, Saab will design and build a special ship for SIGINT work, according to a company news release.
"The existing Swedish [SIGINT] vessel, HMS Orion, was launched in 1984, and has since then been upgraded several times at Saab's shipyard in Karlskrona," Saab said.
The contract comes amid rising tensions with Russia and recent Swedish reintroduction of conscription.
