Rockwell Collins will upgrade the low-frequency transmission system on the E-4B airborne national command post, planes used to transport the president, secretary of defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to the Air Force.
Boeing, which manufactures the E-4B, selected Rockwell to upgrade the system, according to a Rockwell news release. "We're continuing our strong relationship with Boeing by providing reliable, survivable and endurable communications between the president and our nation's nuclear forces," said Troy Brunk, vice president of airborne solutions for Rockwell Collins.
The work, which will be performed at Rockwell's Richardson, Texas facility, is scheduled to be completed by September 2016.
