Southwest Research Institute has been awarded a $9.4 million Air Force contract to develop technology to develop technology that can detect and geolocate high-frequency emitters.

The first phase of the project, which has been completed, focused on accurately resolving “multiple angles-of-arrival and polarization states through novel antenna concepts; the ability to enhance signal-to-noise ratio and signal detection through the use of multi-dimensional adaptive signal processing; and the ability to accurately determine the dynamic state of the ionosphere,” according to the Department of Defense contract announcement.

The current contract is for the second phase, which will include system integration of these innovations followed by a non-real-time field test.
