DISA has awarded its massive Global Network Services telecommunications contract to eight companies.
The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract, which has a maximum value of $4.3 billion, calls for telecommunications network solutions and services supporting the Defense Information System Network enterprise-level infrastructure. Work will be performed globally mostly outside of the continental United States.
According to the request for proposal released in April, GNS will provide a single global network by 2020 that will include all types of wired and wireless communications, with voice, video and data transmitted around the world on a 100-gigabit-per-second backbone, The program covers the transport services for DoD and national security customers, connecting users virtually through physical cables and wires, satellite connections and more, according to DISA officials.
The winning firms are Artel, AT&T, BT Federal, Qwest Government Services, GTT Americas, CapRock Government Solutions, Level 3 Communications and Verizon Business Network Services. The contract was awarded by the Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization.
