Elbit has unveiled a new version of its Skylark mini-UAV.

The Skylark C is based on the Skylark I. But while the original Skylark was designed for land ISR missions, Skylark C is optimized for maritime use.

Electrically propelled and equipped with inertial navigation, the Skylark C features a stabilized electro-optical sensor payload as well as a "unique fully autonomous parachute-based recovery, allowing the lightweight waterproof air vehicle to safely glide, land and float on water surfaces guided by GPS," according to an Elbit news release. "A net recovery on deck is an optional capability. The entire process — from recovery to next launch — takes no longer than 15 minutes."

"With Skylark C, small-scale naval crews, such as special operations forces and coast guard patrols, can capture mission-critical information using a truly intuitive and organic system, and as a result significantly improve their operational effectiveness," said Elad Aharonson, general manager of Elbit's ISR division.
