The Italian Air Force will be the first buyer of the P.1HH HammerHead UAV, according to a report in Defense News. In a transaction to be completed by 2016, the service will buy three ground control stations and six ISR-equipped UAVs.

The Hammerhead is an unmanned version of Piaggio Aerospace, P-180 business jet, with systems added by Finmeccanica unit Selex.

The Italian Air Force played a role in developing the UAV, which had its first successful test flights in December.
