Northeast Information Discovery, Inc. has been awarded a $17.8 million Air Force contract to develop a new software-defined transceiver.

Under the Collection Techniques for Radio Network Exploration contract, Northeast Information will develop "new software capabilities for a software-defined and reprogrammable transceiver that has broad applicability to military-relevant missions," according to the Department of Defense contract announcement.

"This is an effort to improve military capabilities in the electromagnetic spectrum and cyberspace using digital transceivers that leverage open architectures as well as standard frameworks and interfaces," the DoD statement added.

The work is scheduled for completion by March 2020.
