Northrop Grumman has demonstrated its new AQS-24B towed mine-hunting sensor during the Royal Navy's Unmanned Warrior exercises.

The sensor was towed by Atlas Elektronik UK's Atlas Remote Combined Influence Minesweeping System (ARCIMS) unmanned surface vessel at speeds of up to 18 knots during test runs in a simulated mine field at the British Underwater Test and Evaluation Centre range in Scotland, according to a Northrop Grumman news release.

The AQS-24B was delivered to Navy mine-hunting squadrons in September. An upgrade of the AQS-24A, the "B" version includes the world's first operational high-speed synthetic aperture sonar and an optical laser line scan sensor, Northrop Grumman said.
