The Navy has awarded a contract to develop a better manipulator arm for bomb disposal robots.

RE2 Inc. received a $2.7 million Office of Naval Research contract to devise an underwater dexterous manipulation system (DMEA) for waterborne improvised explosive devices (WIEDs).

"RE2's dual-arm dexterous manipulation technology integrated onto an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) will make it possible to perform [explosive ordnance disposal] tasks in confined spaces," said a company news release.
