Northrop Grumman has been awarded a Marine Corps radar contract.
Northrop Grumman will deliver nine more AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) radars, according to a company news release. Northrop Grumman is already scheduled to deliver six radars beginning in February 2017.
The AN/TPS-80, which is currently in low-rate initial production, uses Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology.
"There are no other GaN ground-based active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars in production today," said Roshan Roeder, director of mission solutions at Northrop Grumman. "G/ATOR is the first [Department of Defense] ground-based AESA system to incorporate GaN in a production program."
