In January, DISA Director Lt Gen Ronnie Hawkins said the agency was reorganizing with an emphasis on the "five Cs" – cyber, cloud, collaboration, command and control.
The reorganization includes four centers: business and development, implementation and sustainment, resource management and operations. The centers are meant to centralize requirements and analyses within organizations, as well as communications efforts, engineering, solutions, development, testing and evaluation, DISA officials said at the event.
Another goal of the reorganization is alleviate pressure on U.S. Cyber Command by taking over some operational duties.
The new Joint Force Headquarters – DoD Information Networks, launched at initial operating capability on Jan. 15, will free up CyberCom to focus on strategic operations and coordination between combatant commands. JFHQ-DoDIN first will take over roughly 19 tasks, a number that DISA executives say will grow.
Hawkins will detail DISA's role in defensive cyber operations at AFCEA's Defense Cyber Operations Symposium, set for May 5-7 in Baltimore, Maryland. Click here for details. DoD CIO Terry Halvorsen is also on the roster, along with US CYBERCOM Deputy Commander Lt Gen James K. McLaughlin and DISA CTO David Mihelcic. See the full roster here.
