Alion Science and Technology will research, develop, test and evaluate some advanced technologies for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) that will bring enhanced command and control battle management to warfighters.
The $4.5 million contract, called Holistic Waveform Development Kit (HAWK), directs Alion to design, develop, test and integrate services for the HAWK Advanced Waveform Development Environment Ecosystem (AWDEE), according to the company. That will enable the rapid development of software-defined radio (SDR) waveforms.

Alion will improve the FLEX data link architecture, which is designed for multiple high-speed data transmission, including radar, signals intelligence and electronic warfare.
"Research and development efforts under this contract will provide significant improvements in wireless communication data rates and also implement efficient and highly adaptive development processes that will provide cost benefits to AFRL for future improvements of communications and RADAR-based systems," said Alion senior vice-president Chris Amos.
