Northrop Grumman has released a modular sensor system that will allow users to change the sensor's capabilities quickly in the field, according to a report in Defense News.
The 500-pound OpenPod can be attached to a variety of aircraft, and potentially helicopters, if they can accommodate the weight, said James Mocarski, vice president of Northrop Grumman's Airborne Tactical Sensors business unit.
The modular system allows the sensors to be modified for a variety of missions, allowing flexibility without having to remove the sensor and mount a different one.
"It's as simple as reconfiguring your pod and reattaching it to your aircraft," said Mocarski during a briefing at the National Press Club in Washington.
