Raytheon to research next-generation radar

Raytheon has been awarded a $1.1 million grant to research the Army's Next Generation Radar (NGR).

The grant is part of a two-year cooperative research agreement between Raytheon and the Army Research Laboratory's Advanced RF Technologies Program. Both parties will work on Scalable, Agile, Multimode, Front End Technology (SAMFET) for the Next Generation Radar.

The Next Generation Radar "will enhance radar-reliant air defense and counter-rocket and -mortar system performance, particularly in portable configurations such as hand-held, vehicle-mounted and airborne deployments," a Raytheon news release said. "Raytheon will work with ARL to explore new approaches for the design and fabrication of modular components that will fit into NGR's open architecture, offering processing flexibility, agility and efficiency across radar bands."
