Oceaneering International has been awarded a Navy contract, valued at up to $19.3 million, to research tactical networks.

Under the 18-month contract, Oceaneering will "develop and demonstrate novel technology options and designs to restore connectivity for tactical data networks using small diameter optical fiber and buoy relay nodes," according to the Department of Defense contract announcement.

The work is scheduled to be completed by September 2018. The contract was awarded by Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command's Center Pacific in San Diego, California.
