The State Department has approved a $1.8 billion sale to Norway of P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.

The sale includes up to five Poseidons, as well as an assortment of radars, acoustic sensors, missile warning sensors, and radios, as well as sonobuoys, spare parts and training.

"The proposed sale will allow Norway to maintain its Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) capability following retirement of its P-3C MPA," according to a Defense Security Cooperation Agency news release. "This sale will strengthen collective NATO defense and enhance Norway's regional and global allied contributions."
