L-3 has been awarded a Navy contract to provide sensors for Military Sealift Command.

Under the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division contract, which has a maximum value of $49 million, L-3 will provide its MX-10MS electro-optical/infrared imaging turrets. “The systems will be integrated by NSWC Crane into a larger system solution in support of the situational awareness system requirement for the Military Sealift Command Electro-Optical System (MSC-EOS) program,” according to an L-3 news release.

The sensors will help Military Sealift Command ships at sea with issues such as navigation, situational awareness, reconnaissance and surveillance, coastal observation; and navigational hazard documentation. The first turrets will be fitted with high-definition IR, electro-optical wide and electro-optical narrow sensors, as well as a laser rangefinder. The system will also feature an advanced video tracker and a deicing capability.
