Defense Information Systems Agency Vice Director Maj. Gen. Sarah Zabel is taking up a new position as director of information technology acquisition process development. Her new position is a part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, located at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington. The office oversees service research, acquisition, and development operations.

Before taking her position as vice director of DISA in August 2015, Zabel was the director of cyberspace policy and strategy at the Air Force CIO office.

Oregon native and Portland State University alumni Rear Adm. Nancy Norton, is stepping into Maj. Gen. Zabel's role at DISA, which is located at Fort George Meade, Maryland.

Norton was commissioned in 1987 earning a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, where she was the President's Honor Graduate.

In other news, Col. Michael L. Downs is moving from commander of the 17th Training Wing at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas to Brig. Gen. John T. Rauch Jr.'s previous position as the director of future warfare, Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, based at the Pentagon. Rauch will be moving to the dual-hatted position of Air Force chief of safety, based at the Pentagon, and commander, Air Force Safety Center, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico.
