Hughes has unveiled a new portable satellite terminal. The HM500 weighs less than 31 pounds, according to the company.

"The HM500 transportable terminal offers multi-band operation in a very lightweight ruggedized package using pre-configured settings over one of multiple frequencies, including Ku-, Ka-, Mil Ka- and X-band. Its simplified set-up, quick deployment and high data rates brings international users an ideal portable communications solution needed across a wide range of applications, from disaster relief to military operations," a Hughes news release said.

"Our new HM500 leverages Hughes industry-leading satcom technology to support critical mobility requirements of government and enterprise users," Hughes' senior technical director, Rajeev Gopal, said.
